In the 2015 edition of the Noorderzon Festival in Groningen (NL), Harma Heikens’ exhibition of sculptures was shut-down by festival management after people felt offended by one of the pieces being displayed. The work,‘Toys in the Attic’, which I used as the cover for the mixtape, cryptically addresses the tender social issue of domestic child abuse.
The sculpture soon caused a small disturbance, and even threats were made to set fire to the exhibition. Management closed down Harma’s show until further notice, and quite soon for the remainder of the festival after Harma spoke to the press, which festival management had forbid her from doing so.
"Art should make people think. Some people, when confronted with thoughts, harm self and surroundings in response. Other people turn to each other, and discuss the thoughts to gain insights. Alas, only a select few create new art because of that. Create art. Discuss. Add." -Johan van Hattum/Terzij de Horde
It is because of this I’m using Harma’s piece ‘Toys in the Attic’ as the cover for Tartarus’ 50th release. ‘Forever Out Of Control’ is a special mixtape containing Dutch and Belgian bands who are connected to Tartarus or just good friends of the label, support the artist and are against censorship.
Tartarus Records is and will always be against censorship.
Tartarus Records is and will forever be out of control.
